As an artist, I am a social body. I have never considered myself unique or creative. I acknowledge the influence and help of extraordinary people who, perhaps unknowingly, passed me the baton of their knowledge, influencing me to this day. Since the late 1980s, I have had as my goal the development of art forms that compensate for the excess of imagination, fantasy, sentimentality and nostalgia in which we live. If we can call this realism, fine, however I am not interested in classical art or the exact representation of appearance. I’m not looking for a nostalgic return to mimesis, but a turn to the real in art and image. A dialectical and non-metaphysical realism, whose ontology is the indeterminate infinity of the past and the future that intersect in the present in the form of things. The thing of the thing in painting is the stain and not the symbolic, nonetheless there is no possible dialectic if the thing does not fight with the symbol for meaning. That is why my work is not abstract either. I have named this dialectical realism decreativity, incorporating decolonial aesthetics into the concept.
Como artista, soy un cuerpo social. Nunca me he considerado único o creativo. Reconozco la influencia y ayuda de personas extraordinarias que, quizás sin saberlo, me pasaron la estafeta de su conocimiento, influenciándome hasta el día de hoy. Desde finales de la década de 1980, he tenido como objetivo el desarrollo de formas de arte que compensen el exceso de imaginación, fantasía, sentimentalismo y nostalgia en el que vivimos. Si podemos llamar a esto realismo, bien, sin embargo, no estoy interesado en el arte clásico o la representación exacta de la apariencia. No busco un regreso nostálgico a la mimesis, sino un giro a lo real en el arte y la imagen. Un realismo dialéctico y no metafísico, cuya ontología es el infinito indeterminado del pasado y del futuro que se entrecruzan en el presente en forma de cosas. La cosa de la cosa en pintura es la mancha y no lo simbólico, sin embargo no hay dialéctica posible si la cosa no lucha con el símbolo por el sentido. Por eso mi trabajo tampoco es abstracto. A este realismo dialéctico lo he denominado decreatividad, incorporando el concepto de estética decolonial.
